Pharrell – Happy | Style

It might seem crazy what I’m about to say
Sunshine she’s here, you can take a break
I’m a hot air balloon that could go to space

Things have been a lil heavy ’round here these days so I thought we’d lighten it up with another Emily post! Not Emily Post, an Emily post… okay I’m done with the bad jokes now, promise.

Emily says, “Being a stylist, I come across so many fabulous products. These are some of my favorites for the spring season. Heading into warmer weather and sunshine is always a great excuse to update your stash of goodies!”

My 10 Favorites for Spring:

spring products for hair, pureology product

Pureology Sea-Kissed Texturizer:
Who doesn’t want beach hair all the time? I know I do. This allows for the tousled hair and beachy waves without the salt (non-stripping). Its lightweight, shiny, and smells delish! If you live in the St. Louis area come by Studio703 to get this (and all other Pureology products).

moroccan oil, spring hair

Moroccan Oil (Medium) Hairspray:
For those of you who haven’t tried this, you are missing out! It’s lightweight and not crunchy (Thanks, hair geniuses!) I wear my hair up in a high bun, down in waves, or in a fishtail braid a lot. This gives me the hold I need without the crunch and I can still run my fingers through my hair.

facial, mask, style, fashion, beauty

Mask of Magnaminty by Lush:
I’m obsessed with all things Lush. They are a fresh, handmade, cruelty-free cosmetics line. This is a deep cleansing and seriously minty mask. It’s super gritty and infused with peppermint oil. It leaves your face (or body) feeling fresh and clean.

peel, facial, beauty, product

Dr. Gross Peels:
Everyone loves a good peel. These are a daily, anti-aging facial peel on pre-soaked towelettes. I was having issues with my skin and these guys saved me! These come in an original formula and an extra strength formula (both of which I have tried and loved). Seriously, amazing.
Side-note: These make the skin more sensitive to sun, wear a sunscreen and follow the instructions on the box!

beauty product, benefit, makeup, style

Big Easy by Benefit:
This is new to my daily routine and I love it! Its a “multi- balancing complexion perfector.” A BBcream/CCcream/Primer/everythingyoucouldeveraskfor in one tube with a built in 35 spf! It goes on like a liquid yet dries like a powder. If you like a very matte look and not dewy (like me) this is a product for you. It will be great this summer for a light coverage and an spf. Big Easy comes in 6 tones for you to choose from.

glo minerals makeup beauty product

I started wearing this a couple years ago and I can’t switch. Their pressed bases are talc-free and non-comedogenic to nourish, correct, and protect your skin. They allow for light (apply with a brush) or full coverage (apply with a sponge). And always apply following your daily moisturizer. There are tons of colors to choose from. They also have a translucent Perfecting Powder to mattify and absorb excess oil (great for the humidity and summer).

pure, fruit, lips, beauty product

Cheek and Lip Tint by 100% Pure:
I LOVE this stuff. It’s 100% natural, vegetarian and gluten free. It’s colored with fruit and vegetable pigments and nourishes skin with shea and cocoa butters. It’s a cream consistency that goes on smooth for a cream blush or a lip tint. Perfect for a little pick me up if you are running out of the house quickly, going to the gym, or laying by the pool (can’ The color shown is Cranberry Glow, but there are 6 to choose from.

hypnose, lancome, mascara, beauty, beauty product

Hypnose Drama Mascara by Lancome:
I get asked one of 2 questions weekly: 1. Am I wearing fake lashes and 2. What mascara am I wearing. Well, I don’t wear fake lashes but I give credit to this mascara. It rocks!

vinylux, nail polish, red, pink

Vinylux Nail Polish by CND:
This is the latest and greatest in nail color. The closest thing to a gel without having to cure it under a light (skin spots..ick). It cures best in natural light but I have done a late night manicure countless times and it works just as well. This week-long polish doesn’t require a base coat, just 2 coats of color and a coat of THEIR topcoat. It comes in 71 Fashion colors as well as 60 colors that match Shellac shades. The absolute best thing about your manicure? COMPLETELY dry in 8 1/2 minutes! You can do you hair, put on jeans, reach into your purse, without fear. WHAT? The colors here are Lavishly Loved (pink) and Wildfire (red).

satsuma body butter, scrub, orange, beauty product

Satsuma Body Butter by the Body Shop:
This smell! So fresh and citrusy. It leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth but no greasy, it melts straight in to the skin. Get your skin ready for those short shorts and skirts!

Oh, and the song! here ’tis!

Ragged Wood – Fleet Foxes | Style

Come down from the mountain, you have been gone too long
The spring is upon us, follow my ornate song
Settle down with me by the fire of my yearning
You should come back home, back on your own now…

wish spring was upon us. I am so stinking sick {TO DEATH} of winter.

If it has to be winter, it might as well be winter in Beaver Creek.

With snowboards. And perfect powder. And steezy {Steezie?} outfits on my favorite people.

Buffalo check patterns make the world go ’round, don’t you think? Good thing we have twin wardrobes.

When I say perfect, I mean P E R F E C T. I’ve never seen such a beautiful snow {minus one ice-ball storm on a long run down the mountain} and if you know how I feel about snow, you realize the weight of that statement. {yes, I say ice-ball. Not hail. Ice-ball. Deal.}

Speaking of ice, isn’t Em a stone cold fox? See what I did there? I’ll stop now, I promise. Anyway….

I owe this girl a big fat thank-you! She sacrificed her ski time to 1. Take a snow-board lesson with me – where we learned the word “steezy” from our friendly instructor, broke some rules, and were dubbed “Giggles” – more on that later… and – 2. Help me stuff, stamp, and seal 100 save-the-dates for Caleb and Katy (my brother-in-law and future sister-in-law).

My backyard fashion shoots aren’t the only ones that get crashed. Clearly, we all really minded the interruption. 🙂

We sure love our Zia and Zio!

This photo is slightly random, but I love it for so many reasons.

Marvelous Things – Eisley | Style

Morning light shall burst bright

And keep us here safely

Oh… lying in the sun

Every day feeling all of the magic in life

You might find the wonder…..

I have been hoping to add a style portion to my blog for some time, however, a number of factors {mostly Worth and that whole photo awkwardness thing} have prevented that from happening… until now!

A while back I introduced my sister-in-law, Emily. She is the best aunt, sister and friend any of us could ask for. We are almost always on the same page before we even know it. She has been training me to be a real live girl for years now {it has been quite a process} and she would be proud to know I can paint my nails all by myself {ish…} now. Every time we go anywhere, people stop her and ask about her outfit, her hair, her bag, her nails…

So now, {drum roll please} I am excited to announce that she, her cutey dog, Dexter, and her amazing husband, Christian (as photographer) will be our official style contributors! {Dexter has fairly classic style, although he does mix black and brown…}

Emily’s killer fashion sense and professional opinions as a stylist will be popping up every so often in the form of style posts and lists of her favorite products and items. I am so very grateful she’s going to be a part of bennebelle!

You can also follow her on Instagram as @emdallest and on Pinterest. If you live in the St. Louis area you’re really in luck. You can schedule a cut and/or color appointment {she did my rad ombre} and go see her at Studio 703‘s Manchester location. Check her out!

Winter Song – The Head and the Heart

Tell me somethin’, give me hope for the night

We don’t know how we feel

We’re just prayin’ that we’re doin’ this right

Though that’s not the way it seems

I’m not the mama who looks put together all {most/any} of the time.

I’m not the mama with floors you could eat off of {even though sometimes we do}.

I’m not the mama who cries on the first day of school.

I’m not the mama who misses having a tiny helpless baby.

I’m not the mama who looks back very often.

I am the mama who keeps trying. The one who looks around and ahead.

I am the mama who spends {almost} every single day with my boy.

I am the mama who lets my {attempted} style shoot turn into playtime.

I’m not the mama who starts her New Year’s Resolution on January 1st.

But I am the one who’s starting it now.

I spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted to resolve for 2014. I obviously want to get in better shape, be more organized, get better at waking up without {wanting to} murdering anyone… blah blah blah. You’re bored already. No, this year I wanted to dedicate myself to something that brought me joy instead of restriction, while still making me better. I’ve been so inspired over the past several months by mamas like Mary Beth of Annapolis and Co and her photography in #theeverydayproject. What a lovely way to bring people together and build each other up!

So, {getting to the point, I promise} my new year’s dedication is to the #notthemamawho project on instagram. It’s a place to post my thoughts, fears, joys, accomplishments, and everything else motherhood means, and to share beautiful {or horrifying} photos.

I hope you’ll think about joining me, whether you have kids, want kids, or don’t want kids, everybody has {had} a mama… consider posting! The only requirement is honesty, and it’s simple to participate – just use the hashtag #notthemamawho on your instagram and Facebook posts. I hope it will be a place where we find empathy and support. I’m so excited to begin!

Royals – Lorde

Life is great without a care, we aren’t caught up in your love affairand we’ll never be royals, it don’t run in our blood that kind of luxe just ain’t for us, we crave a different kind of buzz…

You guuuyyyyysssss. Sorry I’ve been away. And sorry for being all “you guuuyyyyyssss.” It’s just really been that kinda day {/week/month/summer}. Been REAL busy. Check it out, yo.

My buses came to visit us!

Sorry for the crappy self-facing iPhone photo… It may or may not have been creeping up on 2am. We may or may not have had our daily recommended {very} healthy servings of wine.

Bus. Bus. Bus. I could write an entire blog about our {many} adventures, instead I’ll just say that I love these girls more than Caramel Delights and Skinny Pop.

Zia had on some very concerning red lipstick.

When my bus Val comes, we pretty much center the whole visit around food. It’s our buzz. {yeah… so my whole life is centered around food… but we’ll use Val as an excuse.} Doesn’t have to be fancy, just has to be good.

Local Pig is relatively new on the KC food scene and BOY have they quickly become a contenda! I can’t recommend them enough, whether you’re after locally sourced meat {of almost any kind}, specialty food items {some I’d never heard of!}, or just a damn delicious lunch, Local Pig is your NEW BEST FRIEND. Check them out at 2618 Guinotte Ave, KCMO. (This post is not sponsored, I just seriously love this place like whoa.)

We always wear our Freshly Picked Moccs when we go to the coolest places… duh.

We came, we played in the rocks, we ate. This. We almost forgot to take a picture of it before we devoured it. “It” was a delicious Cuban. I must have already eaten all the homemade chips.

We did a fun photoshoot. {P.S. Don’t do a photoshoot after you have stuffed your faces full.}

We went inside so I could buy some sausages and beef and pork chops and eggs and honey and coffee and stuffed dates and shaving cream and spices and… this could go on for a while…

Locally made Oddly Correct Coffee
Who doesn’t like mason jars?

They butcher in-house. They teach classes. They have rad tattoos. They have a slightly scary cow poster. What’s not to love?

Yayyyyyy Local Pig!

Stay tuned for more catching up…
